Global inequality is increasing at an alarming rate. The capitalist society of our time encourages forward growth for each of us. Everyone wants the best car, the best clothes and the best job without looking back. But when we take a moment to look back, we realize that the people on the lower income side (homeless people and people in need) have descended lower than ever before and we decided to do something about it.
What it does
It's a platform that connects working class people with people in need in their respective communities. The homeless people can build profiles on the platform which include things like their name, age, interests and even how they found themselves on the streets. Then people who view their profiles can choose to befriend them and even donate to help them get back on their feet.
How we built it
Used vue.js for the front end and firebase on the backend. The connection was done through a client. Additionally integrated figma into our user profile screen.
Challenges we ran into
We tried using MS Azure for a very long time but it would have required us to build a server in node.js only to share very basic bits of data. We decided to pursue firebase(which was serverless) but it had a lot of dependency problems.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
How we split and delegated tasks to maximize time and resources
What we learned
Vue.js and its compatibility with firebase, how to work in a team(without burnout), how to pull an allnighter
