Inspiration

We were inspired by the classes we've taken at MCIT, as well as our personal journey in pursuing career changes to software development. However, coming into this new field, there are many different types of software engineering to pursue. We hope this tool can help others better decide what type of role to pursue based on their strengths and interests!

What it does

Takes the user through a series of questions, designed to assess their strengths and interests. The user's answers will feed into a score, which at the end will make recommendations to the user.

How we built it

We used vanilla JS, HTML and CSS, since some of our members had experience in web development and we wanted to create something fun and visual.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into challenges with learning JS, and updating/mapping elements on the web page dynamically. Getting the CSS to look good was also a challenge.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Some of our members did not have prior experience with JS, HTML CSS /web development before this project, so it was really exciting to learn these new skills so quickly and build a full web application that looks great and is fun to use! We had lots of fun creating the questions as well, tailoring towards MCIT students, and researching all the different types of software engineers.

What we learned

We learned Javascript, HTML, CSS, and Git. We also learned a lot about collaboration and coordinating asynchronously to build up a project and learn new skills in such a short timeframe. This was also our first Hackathon, so it was really fun first experience and introduction to Hackathons!

What's next for Personality Quiz: MCIT MOSA 2022

We'd like to add more questions, as well as the ability to tailor even more specific recommendations! In the future, we could store info from past test results in a database, so a student can see how their results compare to others!
