The proposed solution, Personal Call Control (“PCC”), provides means for all US telecom customers to selectively block incoming calls across all of their telecommunication devices. It further provides means for a customer to be compensated for telemarketing calls by call originators if the customer chooses to receive those calls. To achieve this PCC defines updates to caller ID data that fall within the current caller ID specifications, leverages common electronic directory technology, and interfaces with existing synchronous billing solutions. PCC includes innovative approaches to address common issues such as erroneous/missing caller ID data, management of multiple corded phones with a single device and allowing emergency calls when all other calls are blocked.
