Inspiration

During my first in-person school term, I couldn't help but feel like everyone around me was progressing much faster than I was. It felt like every other day I was running into some invisible roadblock that prevented me from achieving my goals and getting to where I wanted to be. persistence is both an example and a reminder for myself whenever I feel that way: I pushed myself to finish this project, even though it was far from what I originally envisioned it to be. But I didn't want to be held back from completing a project I was excited to learn from, due to my own uncertainty and need to 'catch up' to everyone. We are all constantly progressing, as long as we aren't resigned to the belief that we can't do something at all just because we can't do it like everyone else.

What it does

Basic platformer web game with 'help'ful little messages throughout :)

How we built it

HTML CSS JS. I actually chose the background because it was my ninth grade phone background and I found it again by coincidence when I was looking for royalty free pixel art backgrounds.

Challenges we ran into

It's probably a really basic JS concept but I couldn't figure out how to make things change when the player cube touched a certain colour. Also trying to figure out how to sub in the square PC for an actual sprite was not fun until I gave up on the idea to work on other things.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Bare minimum, but the fact that I finished it. An hour ago I was convinced to just turn it in as is and call it a day, but I'm glad I stuck it out and created a shambling approximation of an uplifting web game.

What we learned

We learned that my mother does not like it when I make myself noodles at 1 am because I'm being "too loud." Sound is a social construct, Mom.

Also revisited some web dev concepts that I had not used in a loooong time.

What's next for persistence

Better functionality. I wanted to add NPC sprites to drive home the 'being left behind' point but I never figured it out.
