Inspiration

The inspiration from this project came from the pain of applying to so many jobs, and just wanting to auto apply to jobs that are relevant to our resumes.

What it does

A user uploads a resume/cover letter and the model parses key words from the document for keywords for jobs. The user then submits a location and jobs related to the key words parsed are shown in the vicinity.

How we built it

We built the system off of the MecSimCalc platform. We imported various libraries such as folium, geopy, OpenCage, etc.

Challenges we ran into

One major challenge we ran into was finding a free API for geocoding, and to find local businesses. We initially considered Google Maps API, but that was quite expensive, and looked around for free alternatives. We ended up using OpenCage API, and that ended up working well to showcase a variety of businesses.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

A major acoomplishment that we are proud of is the fact that we participated, and challenged ourselves with our project. We are a team of chemical engineers with various levels of programming experience, but we pushed ourselves and are extremely proud of our final result.

What we learned

Coding can be a pain, but it can also be very fulfilling and satisfying, we learnt alot about various API's through this project, and how many amazing libraries Python has to offer.

What's next for perrys-victims, Job Finder

We want to upgrade and imrpove the project so that AI can be used to make the final job application easier. We want to implmement website links to the careers page of the business to autocomplete and submit a resume to the job.
