Inspiration
There exists multiple dining choices both on and off-campus such that students often have difficulty picking where to eat. Such dilemmas extend to all areas of disagreements or indecision in life, so we wanted to make something to help people, groups, and friends, to come to a final decision in a fair fashion.
What it does
Whenever users are facing a point of disagreement or indecision, they can enter their options into Perry Indecisive and battle it out, tournament style! Options can be anything, from what to do and where to study to who should get that last piece of cake. Players then compete with their options by furiously tapping on the screen or keyboard, attempting to push their opponent out of the ring. This is done in a bracket format until a final, winning option is chosen.
How we built it
We designed the prototype for our app on Figma, mapping out the flow of the game and its general design. Then, we drew out the graphics on Pixilart and programmed the game in Unity.
Challenges we ran into
One of the main challenges that we ran into during the hackathon was coming up with an idea that was both feasible within the time given and that solved a problem. Additionally, when we first started the programming process, we used Swift on Xcode. However, because no one on our team had any prior experience with Swift or Xcode, we found the Xcode UI confusing and Swift difficult to become familiar with in the time we had been given. As for Unity challenges, our programmer sometimes struggled to recall documentation and encountered silly bugs with silly solutions that took a silly amount of time to fix.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
For some of us, HackCMU was our first hackathon, and we’re really happy that we were able to gain this experience. We were also able to experiment around with Swift and Xcode, two tools that none of us had any prior experience in.
What we learned
We learned that it is possible to code a relatively simple game within 24 hours, once we had an idea we could work with.
What's next for Perry Indecisive
In the future, we hope to make a mobile version of the game so that using the application will be more convenient for users, as well as an online multiplayer version. Additionally, we hope to update our app so that it supports more options/user input fields.
