Inspiration
We noticed how confusing and slow it is to figure out local permits and regulations. Whether it’s starting a small business, running an event, or even doing home renovations, the information is scattered across different sites and written in complicated language. We wanted to make something that simplifies that process and saves people time and stress.
What it does
PermitPal is a simple assistant that helps people understand what permits they need and how to get them. You describe what you want to do, and it gives clear steps, requirements, and helpful links so you don’t have to dig through government websites.
How we built it
We built a clean web app that connects a simple UI with an AI-powered assistant. The focus was on making the experience easy and conversational so anyone can use it without needing technical knowledge.
Challenges we ran into
Understanding how to structure messy and inconsistent regulation info was tough. We also spent time simplifying the user experience so the app feels helpful instead of overwhelming.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We created a working tool that turns confusing rules into clear steps. We’re proud of how simple and approachable the experience feels.
What we learned
We learned a lot about designing for real-world problems, simplifying complex information, and building fast under time pressure.
What's next for PermitPal
We want to expand coverage to more cities, improve accuracy, and add features like saving projects and tracking permit progress.
