Inspiration

The building permitting process is notoriously problematic and frustrating for applicants and the municipalities serving the construction community. The first thing a permitting agency does when receiving an application is a pre-screen or completeness check. Agencies spend millions of dollars and man-hours just to make sure an application is filled out correctly and contains accurate data and correct attachments. This often results in "go-backs" where the application is returned to the applicant and deficiencies are explained… over and over again. Permit Saige's goal is to guarantee an application is accurate at the time of submittal and eliminate pre-screening and go-backs thereby streamlining the permitting process and ensuring efficiency.

What it does

For this project I build the Permit Saige landing page in Bolt without any Figma design. The landing page does what any landing page should do and looks great! It provides information about the product and company, but it also enables users to start a project right from the landing page. They enter the address of their project and the page sends that to the Permit Saige app and opens it in another browser window. In the app, the user can converse with our AI agent and build all of the permit application requirements they need to submit their permit application.

How we built it

Landing Page: built in bolt.new from scratch with prompts. App: built in bolt.new from Figma designs with prompts.

Challenges we ran into

Our challenges are mostly with configuring the instructions for our AI agent and managing jurisdiction awareness so the responses are accurate to the location of the project. We are gathering public information and storing it. We need to add address validation, too.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am particularly proud of how quickly this has gone from zero to nearly ready for production in just about 3 weeks with only one person working on the front end.

What we learned

We learned that new ai coding tools, like bolt, cursor, openai and cline are revolutionizing how digital products are made and how fast they can be delivered.

What's next for Permit Saige

This version is not production ready. There is a lot more under the hood to do, but this hackathon broke down a ton or barriers already!
