Inspiration

Recently, there’s been rising concern over how much power social media companies have over the freedom of speech. The concept of social media has always existed but usually required users to migrate to a different platform which many (including us) would prefer not to do. So we decided to build something that would allow for decentralization of speech on social media while still allowing us to use the platforms we know and love.

What it does

Permanent Record is a chrome extension that can save a social media post and immortalize it in the blockchain where it is tamper-proof.

How we built it

We developed a EVM-based smart-contract that allows for customized minting of posts and deployed on Caldera’s network. We then built a chrome extension that communicates with the contract to mint an NFT whenever any user wants to archive a post on the blockchain.

What's next for Permanent Record

We plan to website that highlights the entire collection of all immortalized posts as well as a specified section for displaying deleted posts that have received the most attention.
