Inspiration
Our team started with a simple observation: How many times have we been there, but not there? In a world filled with constant hustles and distractions, presence has become a luxury. We were inspired by the idea that many meaningful moments in life happen quietly in the background, ones that we don't even know exist.
What it does
Peri is a pair of smart contact lens system that captures moments from your peripheral vision that your mind might overlook. It surfaces these “glimpses” that users can revisit, reflect on, and better understand their patterns of presence. The goal is to encourage people to slow down, notice more, and live more intentionally.
How we built it
We designed Peri as a speculative product experience combining wearable technology and a companion VR/AR app. Using Figma and Figma Make, we rapidly prototyped the interface and interactions to bring our vision of how glimpses are captured, surfaced, and reflected on
Challenges we ran into
Designing in a speculative space required us to carefully consider the ethical, social, and psychological implications of technology that doesn’t yet exist. We had to think beyond functionality and address concerns around privacy, surveillance, and information overload while still imagining a meaningful user experience. Balancing innovation with responsibility became a key challenge throughout the project.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re proud of designing a piece of technology that deeply reflects our team’s philosophy about presence, intentional living, and human connection. Peri goes beyond functionality to explore how technology can gently support awareness rather than compete for attention.
What we learned
We learned how to effectively prompt AI by providing clear context, rules, and instructions to generate outputs that aligned with our design vision. More importantly, it showed us how thoughtful design supported by emerging tools, can help address problems that once felt impossible to tackle.
What's next
Next, we aim to better understand how speculative wearable technologies can remain supportive without becoming intrusive. We plan to iterate on the current design, refining features that encourage intentional living while maintaining subtlety and user comfort. Further exploration will also focus on balancing helpful insight with quantitative metrics.
