Inspiration:

We were inspired by friends who perform, both competitively and for a career, who talked about the inaccessibility of their field (especially for those who lack prior connections).

What it does:

Performr provides access to fun, local gigs, lowering the bar of entry for first-time or novice performers. It serves as a solid first rung on an artist's ladder, providing them with the connections and friends in the circles that are all but necessary for casting in major productions.

Challenges we ran into:

There's a lot of firsts in this project: first time performing authentication, setting up a responsive database, designing for mobile & hosting a mobile simulator, etc. etc. Because of our lack of experience, we swung like a yo-yo between playing it too ambitious and too safe.

Accomplishments that we're proud of:

Getting all of those firsts up and running in the end!

What's next for Performr:

Ideally the model would be built out into a proper mobile app, similar to fast-casual or hookup apps (Uber, Tinder, etc.) but geared specifically for performance arts. A chat function would allow for more contact within the community. Finally, a resale page would be hugely beneficial to starting artists who don't have a mortgage to bail on equipment.
