The problem our project solves
The problem our project solves Investigating the best policies that governments have to adopt in order to succeed in managing the COVID-19 disease within a cultural context A relation between democracy and culture in the COVID-19 fight is expected to be valid as both of them are related to the perception through which people view their life. This problem is detailed as follows: Reviewing the main measures which governments around the world have applied in the fight against COVID-19 within a certain cultural context. Which are the differences in complying with the COVID-19 imposed rules and for the performance management of COVID-19 among the world countries and the European countries? Which is the role of culture within the relationship between democracy and performance management of COVID-19? Reviewing the literature and the current evidences regarding the trilogy: democracy & culture, democracy & health outcomes and culture & health outcomes.
#The solution we bring to the table 1.Developing a research aimed for measuring the level of compliance of the government rules of keeping social/physical distance in each European country which will include the overview of the main specific rules adopted by the European governments with this purpose, how were these decisions respected, were theydifferent and which were their determinants, which were the levels of fines applied for the noncompliance with the COVID-19 social/physical distancing rules, which were the needed policies in order to promote a good efficiency of the COVID-19 management for people’s health.
- Determining a stringency index among the European countries in order to measure the ability of the national and local governance to adopt the best measures to fight COVID-19 disease.
- Empirically assessing how disparities in culture and democracy affect the level of compliance with the government rules, by linking the culture and democracy with the management performance of COVID-19 disease through innovative models (countries/counties).
- Empirical estimation of the management performance of the COVID-19 disease. Cross-countries’ study.
- Setting up tools to improve the level of performance management of COVID-19. With this purpose, we proceed as followings: • Identifying the tools that improve the level of performance management of COVID-19 by evaluating the most appropriate instruments aimed at increasing the level of performance management of COVID-19. • Developing and applying the tools, e.g. an Android/ iOS beta mobile applicationor a web site; an online workshop on performance management of COVID-19 related topics, and case studies, aimed at enhancing the best practices of performance management of COVID-19 in each country. • Promoting visibility and availability of these tools through the inter-institutional relations of universities and public authorities maintained around the European Union.
- Promoting visibility of the best practices of performance management of COVID-19 in each country(Facebok page, Instagram, TikTok, Twitter).
What we have done during the weekend
This weekend and period before we have building the team which belongs to three European countries, we have exchanging ideas and opinions in order to become stronger together within the COVID-19 fight. We fixed our preliminary steps. Thus, in order to find the solutions to our project, first we collected a big part of the required data.
The solution’s impact to the crisis
Our addressability is wide, from regular people to top policymakers, through their common goal of limiting this pandemic and all the negative effects it brings along.
The necessities in order to continue the project
The project’s resources will cover expenses with technical devices, authorised software, supplies, survey data collection, Android application/site development, workshop organisation, journals’ fees and research exchanges, fees for on-line conferences, questionnaires to be applied on/data collection for the European countries and others.
The value of our solution after the crisis
Our project prepares governments and European citizen for overcoming the pandemic at the lowest price of lost lives. The main purpose of democracy nowadays is ensuring population’s health, because we cannot mention a democracy where the government doesn’t efficiently react to pandemic challenges, saving its citizens. The cultural context plays an important role as well and we intend to explain it and use it to the main advantage of becoming stronger together. The resulting solutions would help the management of a future pandemic waves.
