Inspiration
I have searched far an wide over the internet for a site to allow me to continue to practice learning perfect pitch and also include microtonal sounds. So I decided that I would make it myself and now anyone wanting to train their ears can use this site to do it. I wanted something to exist and I made it exist.
What it does
You select the notes you want to practice naming and then you start the game and keep guessing notes until you get it right based off what you hear. There's also other fun features within the site (the logo spins, and there is dark mode!).
How we built it
We used just React and Tailwind for the front end, FL-studio for creating the notes, and GitHub pages for hosting.
Challenges we ran into
We were sent on a wild goose chase trying to find unicode characters for threehalfs sharps and threehalfs flats. We also spent hours trying to find a way to get microtonal music in MIDI but realized that it wasn't possible (with the tools we found) so we just decided to learn FL studio to create the notes ourselves.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We completed the project and added a lot of fun features! I think it was nice for the people in our project with no webdev experience to contribute to their first webdev project
What we learned
Sometimes to implement an idea you don't need fancy technology, just a vision and the tools you have available. We also learned a lot about microtonal music and how to convert frequencies to MIDI values.
What's next for Perfect Pitch Plus Plus
Make the site mobile friendly and add more songs and functionality to the song library. Also for some reason we can't enforce HTTPS right now so fix that soon.
