Inspiration

Our inspiration for this project ranges from current conflicts in healthcare to personal experiences. In today's society, accessibility to healthcare is greatly dependent on a person's financial situation. We want to combat this issue and reduce costs for patients to discover cancer treatments.

What it does

Our project consists of building on previous scientific research based on an AI-based approach named PERCEPTION, short for PERsonalized Single-Cell Expression-Based Planning for Treatments in Oncology. In short, the process involves processing mRNA and transcription factor sequences to detect any genetic irregularities and determining which drug therapies are best compatible with a patient's genetic information. Our proposed app involves inputting a patient's sequences into software that uses the PERCEPTION approach to aid the user in finding treatments, nearby healthcare facilities, and insurance coverage.

How we built it

Our app is yet to be built but suggested flow charts have been created to model what the app program would look like.

Challenges we ran into

Due to the fact that the PERCEPTION approach has only recently been developed, there is an abundance of research yet to be discovered that would allow us to, potentially, improve our app. Overall, our research and app development are still in progress and, thankfully, no other interfering obstacles have come our way.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We have yet to accomplish much in such a short amount of time.

What we learned

We learned a great deal about how computer science and biology can overlap and work together to improve the healthcare industry. Understanding how molecular structures and processes are utilized by computers is quite interesting.

What's next for PERCEPTION App

We plan on developing a wider range of possibilities for our app. Depending on how the research continues to develop, we can modify our app to help patients learn more about their healthcare options and affordable alternatives.
