PepsiCo-Lony

Seeking the nostalgic feeling of mystery, we are bringing back the randomization of prizes in all PepsiCo products. QR codes containing exclusive characters, peeps, coming to life in PepsiCo-Lony.

Inspiration

Both Rosa and I (Fabiola) grew up outside of the U.S were finding small toys and prizes was common in popular brand snacks. Reminiscing and thinking back to the excitement and anticipation of what was in store inside a small bag, made us realize how many smiles it brought not only to us but our community as whole. Core memories were built around this small activity and giving this opportunity to the new generation was our goal.

What it does

In the website that we build, customers are able to make and account and enter their exclusive codes to unlock special character for their Colony. Is planned that every PepsiCo product would have randomized codes that each gives the customer a different experience. Even making some characters exclusive to each country that sells PepsiCo products, with a representative theme. For example, only in Mexico would you be able to receive a code for an Alebrije. Thus, bringing inclusivity and excitement to the game. Once in the game, the user is able to explore the PepsiCo-Lony and visit participating restaurants in the game such as Starbucks and such.

How we built it

We built our website with HTML programming, allowing us to make it unique and representative to the PepsiCo brand.

Challenges we ran into

As beginner programmers we ran into web design issues. The animations to make out PepsiCo world was something out of our reach for now but later in the future we hope to slowly built it and see it come to life.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of the team work that was demonstrated throughout this whole process as well as being able to represent our Latinx community and bring one of our childhood's memories back to life. This being our first Hackathon we came with many questions but can confidently said we are leaving with an excess of knowledge.

What we learned

We learned that Hackathon is not about being the best programmer/developer but instead it is about coming with great intentions of learning and growing. It takes a range of skills to make an idea become a reality and Hackathon DFW is the place where all the talent can be merge and produce something magical.

What's next for PepsiCo-Lony

We hope PepsiCo-Lony keeps growing into more of a complex world, were eventually small games can be incorporated and users are given more of a range of options to showcase their collections of peeps. We hope that a community with the same interests its built from this and leaves nothing but a nostalgic/memorable legacy!
