Inspiration

"Stop Line 3" has been a recent topic that needs to be recognized, but many are not aware of it or have never heard of Line 3. Our hope was to create an app that would shine a light on what Line 3 is, and how people can help, so we created People Over Pipelines.

What it does

People Over Pipelines features informational pages that inform the users on Line 3, its impacts on the climate and indigenous people, and provides resources for users to take action in stopping the construction of Line 3. The app includes quizzes that test user's understanding of the topic and the better they do on the quiz, the more points they accumulate, and the more points they have the more badges they receive. The badges are meant to track progress in user's learning.

How we built it

We started by creating wireframes in an application called Figma to plan the layout of People Over Pipelines. For the app, we used the ios application, Xcode, and its language, Swift, to build our final product.

Challenges we ran into

Creating variables that can be transferred over multiple view controllers to track user's "points" in their progress was difficult to figure out and we ran into many errors during the process. Additionally, our team is unfamiliar with GitHub, so we also ran into our fair share of errors in pushing and pulling.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of our UI layout and its simplicity. One of our team members created our logo and the icons in our app to make the app more pleasing to the eye. Additionally, we're proud of the code behind the quizzes because it was unfamiliar to us, but we were able to figure it out!

What we learned

We learned more about Line 3 due to the research we conducted prior to starting the app. We've learned more about how to code with Swift as well.

What's next for People Over Pipelines

In the future, we hope to add additional informational pages and implement additional activities for users to track their progress in learning about the Line 3 crisis. For example, more in-depth quizzes or mini-games that test user knowledge.
