The idea for The Pension of the Caribbean came from wanting to make learning about pensions and saving money more fun and engaging. We realised that many people find financial topics boring or difficult to understand, so we decided to teach these important life skills through a pirate adventure game.

Our main character, Captain Splash Me Cash (Goldtooth Briggs), is a pirate who has spent years finding treasure but has never learned how to save for the future. Players help him sail aboard The Jolly Fortune, complete quests, earn wages, and decide whether to spend or save their gold. Through these choices, players learn about saving, pensions, interest, and long-term financial planning that also benefits the community!

During this project, we learned how game design can be used to teach real-world concepts. We also learned about financial education, player decision-making, storytelling, and creating engaging game mechanics that connect to a learning objective.

We built our project by first developing the pirate theme and story, then designing quests, rewards, savings mechanics, and multiple endings based on the player's financial decisions. We wanted every choice to have a meaningful consequence.

One of the biggest challenges we faced was making pensions interesting while keeping the game fun. We overcame this by using humour, adventure, treasure hunting, and pirate characters to create an experience that is educational, memorable, and entertaining.

We are proud that The Pension of the Caribbean turns an important financial topic into an exciting adventure that players can enjoy while learning valuable skills for the future.
