Inspiration
Pennywise was born from a simple frustration money seemed to disappear without explanation. As students juggling tight budgets, we needed clarity, not guesswork. We wanted a tool that didn’t just track spending, but helped us understand and control it.
What it does
Pennywise was born from a simple frustration money seemed to disappear without explanation. As students juggling tight budgets, we needed clarity, not guesswork. We wanted a tool that didn’t just track spending, but helped us understand and control it.
How we built it
We designed a clean, user-friendly interface and built the system with a Google AI studio by prompting. The frontend focuses on simplicity and speed, while the backend handles secure data storage, expense categorization, and analytics. Everything was structured to be scalable and production-ready.
Challenges we ran into
One major challenge was Ai hallucination, We also had to think carefully about user trust, data privacy, and creating meaningful insights without overwhelming the user.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We created a functional and intuitive product that transforms how users see their money. The clean UI, structured data flow, and ability to highlight spending patterns stand out as key achievements.
What we learned
We learned that simplicity is powerful. Users don’t want complicated finance tools they want clarity. We also improved our skills in building scalable systems, designing user-focused interfaces, and thinking like real product builders.
What's next for pennywise
Next, we plan to add smarter insights using AI, budgeting goals, and real-time alerts. We also aim to expand into mobile and integrate secure payment and banking features to make Pennywise an everyday financial companion.
