Inspiration
Keeping track of spending, managing debt, and establishing financial goals can all be extremely difficult. My goal was to develop a completely automated app that makes all of these tasks easier and gives users the confidence to manage their money without the need for specialized knowledge.
What it does
Pennywise is an all-in-one finance app that:
- Automatically categorizes and tracks expenses
- Provides a real-time debt overview
- Calculates and schedules auto debt repayments based on APR
- Offers visual insights and breakdowns of spending
- Includes a checklist for finance goals and milestones
- Uses backend automation to do all the heavy lifting for the user
How I built it
I used:
- Flutter & Dart
- Firebase for authentication, database, and analytics
- Created algorithms to calculate APR-based repayments and generate insights
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
- Taking first place in a global hackathon for finance
- Creating a fully functional application in the time
What I learned
How to create mobile apps - I never created one and I knew I was interested in mobile app development. When I signed up for this hackathon, initially, I was going to create a website, but I thought that a mobile app would help me stand out. I spent like multiple days staying up figuring out how to do it and how to create one, but it ended up paying off!
