Inspiration

Working as a financial advisor's assistant, I witnessed the nightmare of "shoebox accounting." Clients brought piles of faded receipts too late for effective planning. We built Penny to change personal finance from reactive data entry to proactive optimization - a wallet that actually talks back.

What it does

Penny is an AI financial companion that automates tracking and tax estimation.

Smart Scanning: Uses AI to read receipts and extract data instantly.
Auto-Categorization: Intelligently tags expenses as Business or Personal based on context.
Tax Optimizer: Calculates real-time tax deductions based on your income and region.
Reality Wishlist: Tells you exactly when you can afford items based on your cash flow. ## How we built it
Google AI Studio: Code generation, app development.
MongoDB: Handled complex user data and transaction history.
Auth0: Managed secure user authentication and identity syncing.
DigitalOcean: Provided robust hosting for the application.

Challenges we ran into

Our biggest hurdle was Auth0 integration. Ensuring secure user sessions synced perfectly with our MongoDB database without breaking the user experience took significant debugging to get right.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of the whole package, but specifically the Tax Optimizer pipeline. Getting the AI to not just read text, but to understand that a "Client Lunch" lowers your taxable income in real-time, was a huge technical win.

What we learned

We learned the constraints of AI in finance. It requires strict prompt engineering when dealing with numbers, but an empathetic advisor when giving suggestions.

What's next for Penny

We want to move from tracking to control. We plan to integrate Solana e-wallets to use smart contracts that enforce budgets - literally preventing overspending or automatically routing funds to a "Tax Vault" when income is received.
