Inspiration
The prompt for this hackathon was "Create a project that encourages civil engagement". At first we had some boring ideas about helping voters find their polling place and helping them register, but we thought those problems had already been meaningfully addressed in such a way that it'd be hard for us to contribute to a solution within only 24 hours. Instead, we elected to create a game where you try to maximally exploit the flaws of the US political system to gain power. We reasoned that it'd be exciting to play as a "villain", and that this would allow us to both make light of societal issues while also bringing public attention to them, in hopes that this would help them be repaired.
What it does
How we built it
It's a simple python script.
Challenges we ran into
We found this prompt challenging: it's much more socially-focused than what we were expecting, and we spent precious hours just brainstorming and talking about what we might make. As a result, we only started building the project an hour before the deadline, so it's very drafty. This was a good learning experience, though, for future hackathons: sometimes it's better to just start making something instead of being paralyzed by analysis.
