Inspiration
Music runs far and deep on college campuses, and that's no different in our own lives. We have a deep passion for music, and feel like there is still a ton of potential for ways to share your music taste with others.
What it does
Our program is a simple interface that allows you to create an account and login, where you can then build a list of links to all your favorite songs, and send that list via email through the push of a button.
How we built it
We built our program using mostly front-end tools, including JavaScript, Node, Express, Bootstrap, CSS, and JSON. The server runs on a local host port, with integrated login and registration encryption. Bootstrap and traditional css took care of most of our front end designs, and javascript handled our logic.
Challenges we ran into
Originally, the goal was to create a way for users to store their music in a database as well as integrate APIs for listening stats for Spotify, Apple Music, etc. however due to time constraints we never ended up achieving that functionality.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We made some progress in our front end customization skills, with what we would consider to be superb looking login and registration pages. Also, given the time we got a lot accomplished with encryption on the registration, and we also found ourselves finding new ways to do things that took substantially less time overall.
What we learned
Through this project our team became more proficient in GitHub and the process for code sharing when collaborating on a project, our web development skills were certainly pushed at times, and we definitely came out of it more knowledgable than we went in!
What's next for PeerTunes
This is not a project I intend we intend to leave for dead after this weekend ends; there is real potential for this to grow when paired with a good database and more music sharing opportunities across college campuses and abroad!
