Inspiration
Many first-generation and low-income students struggle to break into the tech industry for lack of mentorship on how the industry operates and how the recruitment process works. The idea for PeerMatch came as a way to increase accessibility into the industry by providing students with peer mentors that have already gone through a similar process.
What it does
PeerMatch matches students from underrepresented groups in tech with a mentor to help them build projects and navigate the tech recruitment process. We hope to also partner with tech companies committed to diversity and inclusion to offer successful mentors exclusive internship opportunities that incentivize high quality mentorship. This way, mentors advance their own careers while giving back to the community.
Mentors help mentees brainstorm project ideas, find resources/tutorials to learn essential skills, and give project feedback in addition to any other insight they may offer.
How we built it
PeerMatch was built entirely with swift and swiftui. No backend is currently implemented, but firebase would have been used.
What we learned
We learned a lot about front-end development on this project.
What's next for PeerMatch
We are looking to add features such as project timelines, campus collaborative communities, and project tutorial pages.
