INSPIRATION Students find it hard to keep up with classes in college due to numerous reasons. Some of them include huge crowds in office hours, ineffective long lectures and teaching methods, the rise of Web classes, class size restricts people from taking classes related to their major, lack of attention span in lectures, anxiety of approaching an LA/tutor and lack of quality resources.
This inspired us to develop a tool which would be embedded in their Learning Management System and match students to their class peers which would help solve their doubts more efficiently and also pave a way to make a friend in the class.
WHAT IT DOES? This is a tool which will be embedded in an individual’s Learning Management System, it would first use NLP to comprehend an individual’s test scores and assignments and then create a table like structure which would match one’s weakness to the student who has that weakness as their strength. All this would happen at the backend, using artificial intelligence algorithms.
What the student would see in his dashboard is the student they are matched to and why? Every class will have mandatory peer tutoring sessions within class for like 20 minutes twice a week, if a student prefers to do it online that would be an option too. This would amount to 5% of the grade of the class which would force people onto doing it.
WHY WE BELIEVE IT WOULD WORK? This would surely make a difference in getting better grades as there are various studies where individual teaching is much more effective than personal teaching. While this will not only benefit the student who is weak at that particular concept, it will also help the person who is teaching become even stronger at his topic because one always learns better when they teach others. This would also allow students to get to their classes on time as professors can increase their class sizes knowing each student will have a chance to understand. And very importantly, one will get a study buddy. Being in college is hard, and always gets better with more helpful friends.
