Inspiration
This project was commissioned by the marketing team of a Secure Video Conference startup. The goal was to explain how true peer-to-peer encryption — the same principle behind Ethereum and Bitcoin — protects sensitive calls and makes Extra Safe fundamentally different from traditional server-based video chats. I wanted to visualise this technology clearly and elegantly for a non-technical audience.
What it does
The video demonstrates how Extra Safe establishes a direct, encrypted connection between two users, ensuring that no servers ever access the call. Through clean visuals and structured storytelling, the explainer shows the core benefits: privacy-by-design, zero data storage, and uncompromised security for sensitive communication.
How we built it
Production lasted about a month and combined AI-assisted visual generation with traditional motion design. I worked as art director and designer:
developed the colour system and visual style from existing brand assets,
built the storyboard,
created motion transitions that logically connect each technological step,
and completed the animation in After Effects, including text overlays and tracking.
Challenges we ran into
The main challenge was explaining a complex technology within a strict time limit while keeping visual continuity. The AI-generated images required careful refinement and logical linking through motion design. Another challenge was developing a consistent visual language from limited brand materials — but the combination of AI tools and After Effects helped bridge that gap.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Successfully delivered a complete explainer fully aligned with the marketing team’s goals.
Built a clear, visually coherent system explaining peer-to-peer encryption.
Developed a hybrid workflow combining AI generation and classic motion design.
Strengthened my art direction skills through colour design, composition, and storyboard development.
What we learned
I learned how to integrate AI tools into a structured production pipeline and use them alongside motion design to solve communication challenges. This project also deepened my understanding of peer-to-peer technology and improved my ability to visualise abstract technical processes.
What's next for Peer to Peer explanation technology for Extra Safe chat
The explainer is now part of the company’s public content.
