Inspiration
A woman on TikTok shares codes for public restrooms around NYC. Considering how essential walking is in NYC and the inconvenience of going home just to use the restroom (which especially applies to tourists), finding good public restrooms are quite helpful, though challenging. We wanted to make public restrooms more accessible.
What it does
Uses the user's location to map the nearest public restrooms; users may also upload ratings/reviews about restrooms.
How we built it
We used Java to develop a simulation of the app and figma for design visualization.
Challenges we ran into
Accessing data, confronting the large scale of our app.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We ran into many challenges in terms of what data we could get access to. While we had to make sacrifices that resulted in our project not being what we originally were aiming for, we found workarounds and were still able to put our idea into practice.
What we learned
Use of figma and github
What's next for PeeNYC
Access to maps and integrating that into our program, a more thorough review/rating system, app development
