Peekaboo: Project Story

Inspiration

I’ve always loved the playful charm of doodles and stylized text overlays. The idea for Peekaboo was sparked by early creative apps (like DrawQuest) and the rise of on-device AI. I imagined an app that lets anyone turn ordinary images into expressive, story-ready creations instantly and privately.

What I Learned

User-first design matters: Fast, intuitive interfaces make AI features feel effortless. • On-device AI delivers privacy and speed—no server, no wait, and no data shared. • Effective ASO is precise, not flashy. A single anchor keyword, well-supported metadata, and disciplined updates make a huge difference.

How I Built It

1. Core Tools & Effects • Subject-aware text and doodle layers. • Custom text styles: curves, outlines, glow, Liquid Glass effect (Powered by UIKit and Core Animation). • Background options: solids, gradients, and AI-generated scenes using Apple’s Foundation Models.

2. Gestural, Haptic Controls • Smooth editing via UIPanGestureRecognizer, UIPinchGestureRecognizer, and UIDynamicAnimator, with subtle haptic feedback.

  1. “Story Mode” • Formats to 9:16, applies blurred backgrounds, and optimizes for Stories/Reels/Status posts. • Balances speed vs. watermarks depending on free vs. Peekaboo+ tier.
