Inspiration

As students, life moves fast—between classes, work, and life, we often found ourselves forgetting important tasks or missing out on opportunities. Inspired by the classic story of Hansel and Gretel, who dropped pebbles along their path so they could find their way home. Just like those pebbles, our app helps you leave little reminders—so you never lose track of what matters, no matter how busy life gets.

What it does

Pebble is your smart, friendly reminder companion. Just chat naturally—Pebble understands what you need, when you need it, and where you want it. Set reminders in plain language like “Remind me to buy milk when I’m near the MTR” or “Tell me about my tasks at 6pm,” and Pebble takes care of the rest.

How we built it

AI-Powered Development:

We used Amazon Q chatbot as our coding assistant to build the app from scratch. Q made starting the project, troubleshooting bugs, and iterating on features much faster and more efficient—so we could focus on creating a great user experience.

Conversational Chatbot:

For Pebble’s smart reminder chatbot, we integrated AWS Bedrock, leveraging powerful foundation models to understand natural language input and generate reminders.

Challenges we ran into

Integrating the Services:

Most of us were new to mobile app development and React Native, especially integrating with the map, notification, and chatbot. We leaned into task delegation based on expertise and interests, online resources, and Amazon Q to help us learn fast.

Time and Coordination:

With a tight deadline and busy schedules, it was a challenge to make time for the project and meet up together. We relied on clear communication on progress, sharing problems and solving together, and our passion for the idea.

What's next for Pebble: Location-Based Reminder

Smarter Context Awareness:

Integrate with weather, transit, and calendar services so Pebble can provide even more relevant reminders, like “Bring an umbrella before you leave” or “Remind me after my 2pm class.”

Business Partnerships & Smart Offers:

Collaborate with local businesses to deliver personalized offers or useful tips to users as they pass by stores—unlocking new business models and driving engagement for both users and partners.
