Inspiration

Job security is a serious thing! How I approach the problem is that many applicants loses track what they applied for. They always feel very down not getting in to their interviews. I witness this several times from family and friends. The face of rejection hurts, but we need to keep on trying. I created PDTracker not only for the hackathon, but for my personal use! This made me decide to go as an individual for my first hackathon.

What it does

PDTracker is web application tracking system where you can track down all your personal development information. Unlike normal spreadsheet, it provides a simple and clean design to illustrate and visualize what you have achieve over the past few years!

This is similar to writing in a journal to show your thoughts and record special moments of life such as projects and achievements.

It is not just for professional development, it is also for personal development use. The user can freely put what ever they want. Ideally it is great for inputting your professional development such as resume, cover letter, and past job posting.

The main page has some neat articles for professional development such as how to make a good resume, why do you need a cover letter and other articles that can help with professional development. The website have a motivational career quotes to enhance the user's positive attitude. The web app dissects each similar categories of a resume and inputs them on a website as well as maintaining a preview for the latest resume and cover letter.

How we built it

I used mostly Html and CSS to build PDTracker because these are the only two languages I am comfortable and capable of within the time constraint. I did not use python because I do not know how to inject python into front end development, but in the near future I will implement different style of code. I only have 10 weeks of programming experiences and I just started to learn programming since January of this year.

I took into the account for colour scheme because I wanted to applied the skills and knowledge that I learn from COMP1800. However, I used other courses such as COMP1537 and COMP1510 to help format my code. The main idea that got to me is the colour of orange for the logo because it provides optimism and energy, which drives the user to keep on trying to apply for the job postings.

Challenges we ran into

I was planning to make a database system for the PDTracker and Javascript events; however, due to time constraints and working by myself I left some details out and focus all on the front end to present a prototype model of PDTracker. In an ideal case, I would expect to take a few months to complete this project.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Working alone for my first hackathon. Many students from my set and the other sets think I am crazy. I was multi-tasking with set rep duties at the same time. Surprisingly, I do not feel very tired at all! I feel more motivate to create more projects! I am proud of myself that I can manage to make a feasible and presentable website in a short amount of time.

What we learned

I learn that for the next hackathon, I am definitely finding a group. Countless hours of personal time has been lost. This meant sleeping and eating!!

What's next for PDTracker

-Make it more scalable for mobile user, by shifting and hiding a few elements. -Create additional functions that user can view archive files such as old resume and cover letter that was posted before.
-Style profile tab more and make it personalize for the user. -Create a database that stores an array of quotes, users, and their elements. -Create a notes option on the main page to allow the user to put their personalize notes or a to-do list.

I will keep working on this project despite the hackathon is over since I want a product that can be usable and complete!
