Inspiration
It all started with a PDF, 75 pages long i had an exam the very next day and had to find a cram it all or risk failing the course, i crammed and passed, but within me i vowed i will never cram for an exam again. That was the birth of Pdepth.
What it does
Pdepth is a tool where users upload PDFs and get instant summaries and also youtue videos based on the content quite novel right?. It helps student like no other app has ever done before, the first of its kind.
How we built it
I built Pdepth using fastapi for the backend and react and vite for the frontend, I made use of groq and Gemini API's for summarization and used youtube search API for video recommendation.
Challenges we ran into
I ran into a lot of challemges especially with the API;s and finding a way to work around the free tiers, as i'm currently not buoyant enough to afford the paid and faster tiers.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I'm proud of building a novel app by myself, i can proudly say that no other study app out there can summarize your PDF and give you YouTube videos to help cement your understanding. Thus helping students and everyone alike undestand their PDFs instead of just cramming them.
What we learned
I learned a lot during the building process, especially connecting the frontend and backend gracefully, setting up user authentication, integrating API endpoints into my app and others i cant mention.
What's next for PDepth
This is just the beginning for me, I see Pdepth becoming one of the most popular apps in the educational ecosystem not just for summarizin PDFs but also generating questions and answers and a whole lot more. The only obstacle? Funding.
