PBS SmartClass developed by Panshul, Bhumika and Srishti to provide platform for kids in villages to get smart education and also provides ability to share health and wellness tips.

Inspiration

In this Pandemic we realized the value of technology. This inspired us to develop SmartClass app for kids in rural areas to provide them an ability to get education. Our app provides an ability for volunteers in any part of the world to create their own group of kids from different villages and guide them on education. During this pandemic with remote education, this app can also provide solutions for some of the common challenges we were facing.

What it does

Our app enables instant virtual schooling with below functionalities:

Teacher

  1. Create student profiles
  2. Create Agenda for the week
  3. Attendance tracker
  4. Provide links to educational resources
  5. Grading for their students
  6. Chat with students and teachers

Students

  1. View agenda set by their teacher
  2. View resources shared by teacher
  3. View their grades
  4. Homework tracker and personal planner
  5. Chat with students and teachers

How we built it

  1. Initial phase of the project we came up with an idea as a team and chose Glideapps as our development platform
  2. In planning phase we created the project layout and divided the functionalities into different tasks that could be individually developed.
  3. In execution phase we met twice a week online and shared progress, knowledge and discussed to solve the challenges together.
  4. In testing we involved our families to install the app and test the functionalities. We also fixed the bugs as and when the bugs were reported.

Challenges we ran into

  1. Learning the platform as we were developing the app for the first time.
  2. Enabling and configuring role based access control
  3. Data restrictions between classrooms
  4. Integrating the individual modules into one single app, in virtual meetings.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  1. Potential of our app and the value it can provide for kids
  2. Learning how to create an app.
  3. Developed fully functional app as a team
  4. Remote teamwork
