Inspiration
Africa’s payment ecosystem is fragmented, with businesses struggling to move money seamlessly across banks, mobile money providers, and borders. We wanted to build infrastructure that simplifies payments and improves reliability, speed, and affordability.
What it does
PayRoute Africa intelligently routes transactions through the best available payment channels across Africa. It helps businesses optimize payouts, collections, and cross-border transfers by reducing failures, delays, and transaction costs.
How we built it
We built PayRoute Africa using a modular API-first architecture with smart routing logic, payment provider integrations, real-time monitoring, and automated failover systems. The platform was designed to scale securely across multiple African markets.
Challenges we ran into
One major challenge was dealing with inconsistent APIs, downtime, and varying compliance requirements across payment providers and countries. Ensuring reliable routing while maintaining low latency was also technically demanding.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re proud of creating a scalable infrastructure solution tailored for Africa’s unique payment landscape. We successfully designed a system capable of intelligent routing, redundancy, and high transaction reliability across fragmented networks.
What we learned
We learned that building fintech infrastructure in Africa requires deep adaptability, resilience, and localization. Reliability matters just as much as innovation, and solving real payment pain points creates meaningful impact for businesses and users alike.
