What it does

PayPilot AI is an intelligent financial co-pilot that helps users make smarter decisions about spending, saving, and shopping. It analyses expenses, evaluates whether purchases fit a user's budget, compares products, and provides personalised savings recommendations. Its interactive dashboard presents financial insights, while PayPal integration connects purchasing decisions to a convenient checkout workflow. PayPilot AI goes beyond traditional expense tracking by helping users understand the financial impact of a purchase before they spend.

How we built it

We developed PayPilot AI using Google AI Studio to accelerate AI-assisted application development. The application combines a responsive user interface, financial calculations, interactive charts, and an AI-powered assistant for personalised recommendations. The architecture is designed to connect financial data with intelligent analysis and product comparisons. PayPal integration is intended to support checkout through PayPal's developer APIs, with sandbox testing for payment workflows.

Challenges we ran into

One major challenge was combining financial calculations with AI-generated explanations while keeping the results consistent and understandable. We also needed to design a simple interface for complex financial information, handle missing or incomplete user data, and plan secure API credential management. Integrating AI recommendations with a reliable payment workflow presented additional challenges, particularly around validating purchase amounts and requiring explicit user approval.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We created a unified concept that combines financial planning, intelligent shopping, and payment capabilities in one platform. Key accomplishments include the Purchase Intelligence concept, personalised financial guidance, expense analytics, savings-goal planning, and a user-friendly dashboard. Our goal is to make financial management more proactive by helping users evaluate purchases before spending rather than simply reviewing transactions afterwards.

What we learned

We learned how AI-assisted development can accelerate application prototyping and how financial applications can combine deterministic calculations with AI-generated explanations. We also explored the importance of clear user experiences, responsible handling of financial information, secure API integration, and user consent in payment workflows. The project helped us understand how AI agents can support practical, everyday financial decisions.

Our next steps include completing and testing the AI integration, strengthening data persistence and user authentication, and validating the PayPal sandbox checkout workflow. Future versions could include recurring-expense detection, subscription tracking, budget alerts, and goal-based purchase planning to make PayPilot AI an even more useful everyday financial companion.
