Managing payments involves more than simply transferring money. Users also need clear transaction records, useful insights, and reliable payment verification. We wanted to bring these capabilities together in one intelligent platform. This inspired us to build PayPilot AI, combining payment technology with AI-powered assistance.
🎯 What It Does
PayPilot AI is an intelligent payment management platform that brings together payment processing, AI assistance, transaction history, and analytics.
Key features include:
- PayPal Integration: Create checkout orders and capture approved payments using PayPal Sandbox.
- AI Payment Assistant: Use Google Gemini to provide AI-powered payment-related assistance.
- Payment History: Store completed payment records in Supabase.
- Analytics Dashboard: Visualize payment activity and transaction information through interactive charts.
- Unified Dashboard: Access the application's main features through a single interface.
🛠️ How We Built It
We developed PayPilot AI using Next.js, React, TypeScript, and Tailwind CSS. PayPal Sandbox provides the checkout workflow, while server-side API routes handle order creation and payment capture verification. Supabase PostgreSQL stores completed payment records, Google Gemini powers the AI assistant, and Recharts displays transaction analytics. We deployed the application using Vercel so people can explore it online.
🧩 Challenges We Faced
One of our main challenges was integrating multiple services into a single application. We worked through environment-variable configuration, server-side PayPal authentication, payment capture verification, Supabase database integration, and deployment build errors. Testing the complete workflow helped us understand how frontend components, backend APIs, and database services must work together.
📚 What We Learned
Building PayPilot AI strengthened our understanding of full-stack development, payment API integration, AI-powered applications, database operations, environment-variable management, GitHub, and cloud deployment. We also learned that a successful payment workflow must verify the transaction on the server rather than relying only on the frontend.
🚀 What's Next
Future improvements could include authenticated user accounts, personalized transaction insights, stronger abuse prevention, payment notifications, advanced analytics, and additional payment workflows. We aim to make PayPilot AI more secure, accessible, and useful as the project evolves.
