Inspiration
A pay gap calculator is motivating because it translates theoretical thoughts about gender-based income inequality into concrete, data-driven conclusions. By arming people with knowledge, it encourages intelligent bargaining and efforts to eliminate inequalities. The calculator advances equal compensation for equal effort by fostering openness, accountability, and awareness. It can be transformed into a powerful weapon for igniting global change and transforming dreams for a more just and equal society and workplace into attainable objectives. Since the theme was “Equal Pay Day”, we thought of making this calculator which is a critical instrument in understanding and addressing gender-based wage inequalities, a fundamental aspect of societal and workplace equity.
What it does
To perform its calculations, the Pay Gap Calculator requires access to pertinent wage data, ideally collected from a representative sample of the population or workforce under consideration. This data must include information on the earnings of both male and female individuals and may encompass various job categories, industries, or sectors.
How we built it
We have used HTML, CSS, JavaScript and Python in making this project. HTML and CSS were used for the frontend purpose, to design the page meanwhile JavaScript and Python were used for the backend-to analyze and calculate the pay gap difference. We have included a cleaned dataset of 6631 records of salaries of males and females based on which we get the results.
Challenges we ran into
The problem that we faced while making this project was that we didn't get the result instantly on the same page but on a different page. We were unable to connect frontend and backend as per our desire.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
It feels really good to think that we were able to make a website that included both frontend and backend.
