PawVerse–Mittens AI is an AI-powered pet adoption and fostering platform designed to simplify the process of connecting shelters, foster caregivers, and potential adopters. The platform aims to reduce the time and effort involved in finding suitable homes for cats and dogs while ensuring transparency, accessibility, and informed decision-making throughout the adoption journey. The system integrates pet management, adoption workflows, foster care applications, AI-assisted guidance, and administrative controls into a single centralized platform.

Inspiration

Millions of cats and dogs in shelters struggle to find permanent homes due to fragmented adoption processes, limited visibility, and lack of guidance for potential adopters and foster caregivers. Many first-time adopters are often overwhelmed by application procedures, eligibility requirements, and pet care responsibilities.

PawVerse–Mittens AI was inspired by the need to create a centralized, transparent, and intelligent platform that simplifies pet adoption and fostering. By combining modern web technologies with AI-powered assistance, we aimed to make the journey from shelter to home smoother for both animals and humans.

What it does

The platform enables users to:- Browse detailed profiles of adoptable cats and dogs. View pet photographs and important information for transparency. Submit adoption and foster care applications online. Receive real-time guidance through the AI assistant, Mittens AI. Understand adoption procedures, fostering requirements, and pet care responsibilities. Access a streamlined and user-friendly adoption experience.

Administrators can(still under-process):- Manage pet listings. Review adoption and foster applications. Track application status. Generate AI-assisted application insights. Maintain and update platform information.

How we built it

The platform was developed using a modern full-stack architecture focused on scalability, security, and user experience.

Challenges we ran into

Designing an Intuitive Adoption Workflow Creating a user journey that was both simple for first-time adopters and comprehensive enough for shelters required careful planning and multiple design iterations.

AI Context Management Ensuring that Mittens AI could provide relevant and pet-specific guidance rather than generic responses required thoughtful prompt engineering and contextual data integration.

Database Security Designing secure data access policies using Supabase Row-Level Security required extensive testing to ensure users could only access authorized information.

Balancing Transparency and Simplicity Providing detailed pet information while keeping the interface clean and user-friendly was an important design challenge.
