Inspiration

Pet memorial products often preserve one piece of a life at a time: a photo page, a slideshow, or a song. That leaves a grieving owner retelling the same story across disconnected tools. PawsLullaby began with a simpler idea: tell one pet's real story once, then hold the keepsakes together in one gentle online Memory.

What it does

PawsLullaby creates one connected online pet memorial:

  • A personalized memorial song shaped from the pet's story.
  • A memorial video made from the owner's real photos and clips.
  • A private Memory page that the owner can keep to themselves or share by choice.
  • Paced letters shaped from the owner's memories, which can be read, replied to, and paused over time.

The letters are finite and are never presented as real contact with a pet or proof of an afterlife. PawsLullaby starts with one active free preview. When it feels worth keeping, one complete memorial unlocks for a one-time $39 payment with no subscription.

How we built it

The product is built with Next.js, React, and TypeScript and deployed on Vercel. PostgreSQL with Drizzle stores memorial state, payment entitlement, delivery timing, and privacy choices. Better Auth protects the owner dashboard. Server-side service boundaries coordinate the writing and media providers without exposing credentials or private account data to the browser.

Challenges

The hardest challenge was preserving emotional and privacy boundaries while still making the result personal. The video must use the owner's real materials rather than inventing a talking pet or a lookalike. Sharing is private by default, with owner replies and dashboard controls never exposed. Long-running media generation, payment state, and paced letter delivery also needed clear retry and entitlement boundaries.

What we learned

A memorial feels more complete when song, video, writing, and sharing come from the same story. We also learned that restraint is part of the product: real memories, clear privacy choices, and a correspondence that can pause and end matter more than adding an unlimited chat.
