Inspiration
Mental health poses a significant challenge, especially as anxiety and depression rates continue to rise. Our goal is to develop a resource that can educate children from a young age about effective strategies for managing stress and promoting healthy stress release.
What it does
It is an interactive game, that allows kids to track their stress-relieving and healthy habits in exchange for stars which can be later used to customize their virtual pet.
How we built it
We used next.js, which uses node modules to create a web application. Using HTML and CSS, we were able to create a basis for the user interface and design of the application.
Challenges we ran into
We were having trouble figuring out how to make mental health awareness more interactive for younger kids. Members were not that experienced with making web applications but wanted to challenge ourselves in making one.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were able to create an idea to engage children and then create a base or outline of the application with the time we had.
What we learned
Learned how mental health works for children and the benefits of starting to manage stress at a young age. We also learned more about web application development.
What's next for Pawsitive
We want to add more features to the game such as allowing kids to play with other kids' pets and possibly allow for more interactive play with the pets.
