Inspiration
Pawsitive was inspired by the challenges we've faced with raising our pets. The annoyance of having to deal with long queues at the vet clinic and having to carry around a thick booklet to track vaccinations and food portion sizes inspired us to develop Pawsitive.
What it does
Pawsitive provides a platform that allows users to connect with vets to book appointments for their pets, as well as track their pet's medical records and prescriptions. Most clinics don't have a proper booking or scheduling system in place so Pawsitive provides a convenient alternative for both clinics and consumers. In addition, clinics tend to give booklets that contain sections for vaccination tracking and estimated appointment schedules. Our app also gets rid of this tedious process by enabling clinics to update data instead of having to use paper. Certain vaccinations have to be given in multiple doses spread multiple months apart and it is not convenient to remember the date of the next dose especially if it is scheduled multiple months in advance. Pawsitive has built-in reminders that alert the user about their pet's next appointment/vaccination due date.
How we built it
We used Adobe XD and Photoshop to create assets and the wireframe for the UI. The app is coded entirely using Flutter and uses Firebase for the back end.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into issues while figuring out how to link our code with firebase and create a procedure for logging in and authentication. However, we managed to solve this issue and now have a functional back end.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Figuring out the firebase issue, creating a functional app in 48 hours.
What we learned
We learned new methods of developing applications using the integration between Adobe XD and Flutter. We also learned how to create authentication procedures and how to create a dynamic app.
What's next for Pawsitive
We plan on expanding the feature set and rolling it out as a published platform for everyone to use. We hope to commercialize the idea and turn it into a business.
