Inspiration
Pets somehow always know something's wrong before you do. They don't ask how you're doing, they just show up and reassure you silently. Every wellness app we tried felt tedious. We wanted something that would just notice and comfort you.
What it does
Pawse is a stress companion that lives on your desktop, browser, and phone. Your pet tracks your behavioral signals , typing rhythm, tab switching, screen time, and says something when it matters. Now friends can connect their pets too, sending nudges and companionship reminders through warming messages. Through built-in sensors on your phone, everything is detected and tracked automatically.
How we built it
The pet mascot is a hand-drawn SVG across eight emotional states. We built out a majority through Figma, with Figma Make assisting us in creating screens.
Challenges we ran into
Writing, copying, and "logging methods" that doesn't sound like a wellness app. Calibrating sensitivity so the pet is quiet enough to trust and present enough to be useful. And constantly asking ourselves: are we helping someone rest, or just giving them another thing to optimise?
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Being able to collaborate under limited time and pressure. Despite the challenges we faced, we were able to create a product we all find meaningful.
What we learned
Not all of us knew each other at first. Despite this, we were quickly able to cooperate and work together throughout the design process. We learned the importance of listening to user needs and building user empathy to create a product that truly served others. Our design helps others reconnect with what matters while prioritizing needs and remaining productive.
What's next for Pawse
If time allows, we would love to explore user testing and further iterate upon our design process. We would love to receive further feedback on our design to further improve our prototype and eventually create a fully functioning ecosystem. We want to actually be able to help hardworking individuals who struggle with self care. With further iteration from critique and user testing, we can make our ideas into reality.
