Inspiration

We've seen firsthand the impact that therapy animals can have on stressed individuals, and wanted to bring that comfort and relaxation to all members of the community.

What it does

Our website is a platform for animal enthusiasts to meet other enthusiasts, pet owners, and the pets themselves.

How we built it

We built this website using HTML, CSS, and Javascript on Glitch, and connected it to MongoDB, which was backed by the Google Cloud service.

Challenges we ran into

We had trouble connecting MongoDB to the Google Calendar, because we tried to use Integromat, which ultimately failed after hours of trial and error (we are not even sure it is reliable).

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We were able to use Javascript to connect our website's data to MongoDB! Our database can store users' login info, basic personal info, and pets' info. The users' login info is also securely encrypted.

What we learned

We learned a lot about MongoDB and how we should tackle challenges at future hackathons, such as creating detailed plans and ditching ideas that we believe either won't work or won't be worth the effort so that we can come up with better, more reliable ideas.

What's next for Paws & Play

We would like to be able to fully develop the calendar function for Paws & Play and have it update after a user submits an event. We would also like to make the website more user friendly equipped with more functions, such as profile pages and a friend-adding function.
