Inspiration

According to Statistics Canada, as of Spring 2021 1 in 4 people in Canada over the age of 18 screened positive for symptoms of anxiety, depression, or PTSD.

This inspired us to create a functional application that would be able to help those struggling with anxiety in their day-to-day life.

When we think of an animal that embodies relaxation and self-care, we think of cats. For those who struggle with anxiety, it can be difficult to take time to reflect, relax, and prioritize self-care. That’s why we thought of Pawse, a fun app that encourages users to pause throughout the day to stretch, drink some tea, and reflect.

What it does

Pawse allows users to take time from their daily activities to pause and self-reflect and invest in some personal relaxation time. The app incorporates a cat themed interface - offering yoga poses, daily empowerment messages and notes, tea recommendations for sleep, anxiety and stress, and space for journaling with daily prompts. We encourage users to incorporate this app into their routine alongside other professional support.

How we built it

We built this prototype in Figma. We used Procreate to design the icons and homepage.

Challenges we ran into

Some of us were relatively new to Figma. Initially, it felt inefficient to look up Figma tutorials to figure out how to construct a visually appealing prototype. However, team members with more experience were able to help fill in the gaps and talk the team through the process. At times, this inexperience showed through minor issues throughout the prototype. Through collaboration and research, we were able to identify and resolve these issues.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of our ability to communicate and collaborate to build something in a short amount of time that could clearly showcase our ideas in a very user friendly way. This was a learning experience for all of us, and the collaboration of our team allowed us to support each other in our learning of new concepts, software, and processes.

What we learned

We learned how to create a well-rounded design and prototype using Figma. We also learned how to form a concept of proof under a time domain, collaborate online across timezones, and delegate and organize tasks.

Going through this process also allowed us to reflect on strategies we use to combat anxiety, and research different tools so that we could develop well thought-out

What's next for Pawse

Next, we’d love to expand to other animals, and add additional relaxation tools (mindful meditation, breathing exercises, music recommendations based on mood, nature walk activities, etc.).

Now that we have a visualization of how Pawse can function, the next step is to implement the app and expand its features.
