Inspiration

Planning a trip usually means juggling separate apps for itineraries, learning about landmarks, saving memories, and sharing them. We wanted to bring these together in one place and make travel feel like an adventure. PawPort pairs each traveler with an animal companion that grows as they explore. We also built around three real problems travelers face: overtourism, safety in unfamiliar places, and cultural etiquette.

What it does

Travelers choose one of seven companions, one for each continent: Zuri the lion, Momo the panda, Skye the bald eagle, Pudding the capybara, Hazel the red deer, Kiki the kangaroo, and Frosty the emperor penguin. Each has its own personality, and that personality shapes how the itinerary is generated.

  • Itinerary Builder: plan by day, or take a mystery trip chosen by your pet's personality.
  • Study Hub: follows the destination you chose. Take 5-question quizzes on seven landmarks (the Great Wall, Petra, Christ the Redeemer, Machu Picchu, Chichén Itzá, the Colosseum, and the Taj Mahal), view an image of each place, and earn food rewards that match your pet, with larger amounts for harder questions.
  • Creative Hub: build a scrapbook exportable as JPG, PNG, or PDF, and share it through an in-app social hub.
  • Safety Assistant: [describe what currently works].

XP, badges, snacks, and your active pet partner carry across every hub.

How we built it

PawPort uses a retro RPG style inspired by Prodigy and Pokémon, with a Three.js globe as the landing scene. The four hubs share one state, so progress in one place carries into the others. We wrote the pet bios and all 35 quiz questions (five per landmark) ourselves. [Add your stack: language, framework, hosting, and tools used for art or audio.]

Challenges we ran into

Our main challenge was scope. We began with many features, including voice translation, and chose to cut it so the rest could work together. Keeping the hubs consistent was another, for example making the Study Hub follow the Itinerary Builder's destination while sharing XP and rewards. [Add one technical bug or obstacle and how you solved it.]

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We built a complete cast of seven pets with distinct personalities that affect the itinerary, not only the artwork. We also wrote a full quiz bank and connected the hubs through shared progress. [Add what your demo can do end to end.]

What we learned

[Add one or two lessons from your team, such as about scoping, shared state, or designing for a theme.]

What's next for PawPort

  • A friending feature, so users can show their scrapbooks and progress to friends.
  • Pet Migration Paths: side quests that guide travelers to quieter nearby spots to reduce overtourism.
  • Guardian Companion Radar: pet safety alerts, with a panic code in the local language.
  • Etiquette Questing: a cultural etiquette mini-game that unlocks each landmark stamp.
