Inspiration

The inspiration for PawMap came from the growing need to care for stray animals in our communities. Every day, countless stray animals struggle with hunger, illness, and exposure to harsh environments. We wanted to create a platform that empowers individuals to make a difference, enabling them to monitor and assist these animals effectively. Our goal was to combine technology with compassion to foster a sense of community and responsibility for the well-being of stray animals.

What it does

Paw Map helps users care for stray animals by: Locating and tracking stray animals on a map. Adding new animal locations. Feeding, sheltering, adopting, and rescuing animals. Monitoring their health. Sending notifications for animals in urgent need. It’s a community tool for improving the lives of stray animals.

How we built it

Planning and Design: We started by outlining the core features and designing a user-friendly interface using Figma. Frontend Development: The user interface was built using React, providing a responsive and interactive experience. Backend Development: A Node.js server was implemented to handle data processing and manage user requests. Database: MongoDB was used to store animal location data, user contributions, and other relevant information. API Integration: Google Maps API was integrated to enable real-time tracking and visualization of stray animal locations.

Challenges we ran into

API Integration: Integrating Maps API and ensuring accurate location tracking required significant effort and troubleshooting. User Notifications: Developing a reliable notification system to alert users about stray animals in need was a complex task. Collaboration: Coordinating work across different time zones and skill sets within the team posed logistical challenges, but we overcame them with effective communication tools. Empathy in Design: Striking the right balance between functionality and a compassionate design required careful thought and iteration.

Accomplishments that we're proud of
