Inspiration
The inspiration behind PawLink AI came from the growing problem of lost pets and the challenges families face when trying to reunite with their animals. Millions of pets go missing in the United States each year, and many are never reunited with their owners due to disconnected resources and limited identification methods. I wanted to create a solution that uses artificial intelligence to make finding and caring for pets easier, while strengthening the connection between pets, owners, and shelters.
Beyond lost pets, I recognized that many animals also struggle to find the right forever home because adoption decisions are often based only on appearance rather than compatibility. PawLink AI was created to help solve both problems: improving pet reunification and creating better human-animal matches.
What it does
PawLink AI is an AI-powered platform designed to support pets throughout their journey — from finding their family to finding their forever home. The platform includes- Lost & Found Pet Matching, which uses AI powered image matching concepts to help connect lost pets with possible sightings. AI Adoption Compatibility Quiz, it matches adopters with pets based on lifestyle, preferences, and needs to encourage successful adoptions. AI Health Guidance which provides general pet care information and helps owners understand when they may need professional veterinary assistance. My goal is to create a centralized platform where technology helps improve animal welfare.
How we built it
I built PawLink AI as a web application by using React.js for creating the interactive user interface. JavaScript for application functionality. SQL Database for storing and organizing information. Claude AI for AI powered features and generating intelligent responses. Vercel for deployment and hosting. I designed the interface with a focus on accessibility, simplicity and creating a user- friendly experience for pet owners and shelters.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges was designing an AI solution that could address real-world animal welfare problems while remaining realistic and responsible. I faced challenges with integrating AI features into a working website, organizing and managing data, designing a platform that could support different users, including pet owners, adopters, and shelters, balancing the complexity of our ideas with the time limitations of development. Through these challenges, I learned how to adapt, problem-solve, and improve the project through iteration.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I am proud that PawLink AI became a functional prototype that combines artificial intelligence, web development, and social impact. The accomplishments include- creating an AI powered pet platform. Combining multiple solutions into one place instead of only solving one idea. Developing features that address real challenges faced by pet owners and shelters. Learning new technologies and applying them to create a meaningful solution. Most importantly, I created a project with the potential to positively impact animals and the people who care for them.
What we learned
Building PawLink AI taught me that technology is most powerful when it is created with a purpose. I learned how AI can be used for social good. How to develop a full stack application, how to design solutions around real community needs. The importance of research, user feedback, and continuous improvement. This project helped me understand the process of turning an idea into a technology solution.
What's next for PawLink AI
My next goal is to improve PawLink AI and to expand its impact by working with local animal shelters and pet organizations. Some future improvements include: partnering with shelters to test the platform, improve lost pet matching capabilities, expand adoption recommendations, adding more resources for pet owners, and creating tools that help and support shelters. My long term vision for PawLink AI is to make it a driven platform that helps more pets find safety, care, and loving homes.
