Inspiration

As crime becomes more complicated and security threats vary, law enforcement organizations must address the essential issue of properly allocating resources to combat and prevent crime. This issue is not new to Singapore. Faced with a dwindling fertility rate, there is a pertinent need to optimise resource allocation while maintaining our reputation as a low-crime country. We wanted to create a system that uses crime data analysis and patrol route optimization to help agencies prioritize high-risk regions and shorten emergency response times, taking inspiration from similar projects in South Korea. Our goal was to develop a user-friendly application that would allow law enforcement to make data-driven decisions and better serve their communities.

What it does

Paw Patrol immediately tackles the issue statement by seamlessly combining crime hotspot analysis and patrol route optimization. Our application enables patrol officers to quickly locate the fastest route to a crime incident. Paw Patrol's sophisticated technologies also provide a high-level view of Singapore, critical to the analysis of hotspots and planning for routes. With these, law enforcement can strategically manage resources, prioritize patrols in high-crime areas, and drastically shorten emergency response times. This data-driven strategy improves domestic security by allowing law enforcement to operate more efficiently and effectively.

How we built it

Paw Patrol is built using Flask as the back end and Javascript, HTML and CSS as the front end.

Challenges we ran into

Crime data is not easily accessible to the public due to security reasons and it has made our solutions more challenging as we did not know how to approach the problem without the data.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Despite the challenges, we are proud to have a simple web application that utilises data from various sources and the use of API. As a team of mixed-academic backgrounds and non-computing students, we are proud that we are able to work together to create something novel.

What we learned

We learnt that nothing is impossible.

What's next for Paw Patrol

We seek to implemented the reflection of the shortest route on the map such that law enforcement agencies can just follow it to get to the crime scene.
