πΎ PawBackHome β Hackathon Submission
π§ Inspiration
As a lifelong animal lover and tech enthusiast, I wanted to create something meaningful that helps lost animals find their way back home, get medical help, and eventually find loving families. Seeing stray and lost animals in need every day inspired me to build PawBackHome β a community-driven, AI-powered platform where people can report, support, and care for animals together.
π‘ What it does
PawBackHome is a unified platform that:
- Helps reunite lost pets with their families
- Enables users to report found or missing pets
- Offers an adoption hub for pets in need of homes
- Allows users to securely donate or crowdfund medical treatments via Stripe
- Hosts community forums for sharing advice, emergencies, and care tips
- Connects users to nearby vets and includes a chatbot vet assistant
All wrapped in a soft, kawaii-inspired pastel design to make the experience warm and welcoming.
π§ How I built it
- Used Bolt.new AI to quickly generate and iterate frontend components
- Integrated Supabase for user authentication and database management
- Connected Stripe for secure donation and crowdfunding payments
- Designed and built each page solo using AI prompt engineering
- Focused on frontend flow before wiring backend logic
π§ Challenges I ran into
- Being a solo developer, backend structure and Supabase integration was challenging
- Had to learn role-based access control and database security policies on the go
- Still working on the AI-powered photo recognition system for matching lost pets β it's not included in the MVP but will be added soon
- Ran into issues with database performance and record management under tight time pressure
π Accomplishments that I'm proud of
- Developed a full working MVP solo, with auth, donation, and reporting systems
- Created a clear, emotionally engaging user experience
- Designed a creative and consistent theme that appeals to animal lovers
- Learned Supabase and Stripe in a short time and got them working reliably
π What I learned
- How to plan, design, and execute a full-stack application from scratch
- Using Supabase as a full-featured backend for real-time apps
- Implementing Stripe for non-ecommerce donations and crowdfunding
- Importance of defining MVP scope, especially as a solo developer
- Leveraging AI tools (like Bolt.new) for fast, modular UI building
π What's next for PawBackHome
- Finish and integrate AI-based image recognition for lost pet search
- Improve database structure and clean backend logic
- Add form review + approval flow for adoptions and vet services
- Add verified vet and shelter partners to increase trust
- Gamify engagement with supporter badges and pet story timelines
- Launch mobile-friendly version and expand to international users
