Inspiration
For the past ten years, this quote has lived inside of me: “The plain fact is that the planet does not need more successful people. But it does desperately need more peacemakers, healers, restorers, storytellers, and lovers of every kind. It needs people who live well in their places. It needs people of moral courage willing to join the fight to make the world habitable and humane. And these qualities have little to do with success as we have defined it.” ― David W. Orr We need to prioritise ourselves, and in doing so, interestingly, we’ll have all we need, money and comfort-wise. My background is that I am a qualified 200 hr yoga teacher, and I started this journey as I battled active addiction for 15 years. After suffering for so long, it feels sublime to be FREE and at peace. My hope is that users can learn from my story and choose to rest before we quit. Choose to chase the feeling of ease rather than the zeitgeist glorification of busy that we all chase.
What it does
In just a few minutes, using short videos, PauseMe offers feel-good breathing techniques or ways to release jaw tension when overworking. The world needs more humans at peace right now, and the way to get there is to put the body back into a state of "Im okay" and REST!
How we built it
I used Bolt to prototype the idea and generate initial screens and logic. After running into issues with Android emulators and Flutter, I pivoted and rebuilt the app using React Native with Expo, which allowed me to test quickly on my phone and meet the submission deadline. Used Elevn Labs for my Voice AI agent ( and uploaded my voice) The frontend was structured with help from AI (ChatGPT) , including UX flow, PRD support, and basic logic like navigation between screens. I kept it intentionally simple to focus on functionality, flow, and the feeling I wanted users to have when they opened the app.
Challenges we ran into
I only had 2 days to build this, as saw the one shot prompt competition and was like: "Ja, Ill enter that!" (hee hee) Also struggled with how to get the best video quality, so in the end uploaded a few links to google drive and told Bolt where my wellness videos were. Still working on monetising in a way that doesn’t feel invasive or pushy. Keeping the balance between function and calm experience is also tough with time and budget constraints.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I really love the user experience (glass morphisim) and the fact that videos display properly and have sound is a win for me.( yay) Built a South African voice AI inside of Pause me, and that has made me SMILE as our accents are not common.
Manged to add my 2 Yogic In real life retreats to PauseMe, and that was pretty cool. Also built a few projects and loved how they all ended up connecting ( ie Spring full moon Retreat: https://springfullmoonretreat.com/, also built on Bolt, is on pauseme. ) I managed to submit it, which is also very very cool.
What I learned
This kind of creativity makes me come alive. I hardly slept ( most nights forced myself to sleep at circa 2am) Also building an app is not easy. With AI now able to write code, the real magic lies is in how it feels to use. Experience, flow, and intention matter more than ever.
What's next for PauseMe
Like Buzz Lightyear says: "To infinity & beyond"
Seriously though, I’d like to find a non-invasive way to connect the user to the teacher (using a gentle algorithm).
The app is free, but ideally I'd monetise by taking a small cut when a teacher gets booked.
I want it live on both the Apple Store and Google Play.
Even with ads, I want it to feel calm and not commercial.
My dream? That this becomes my life, Nix the Wellness Creator who backed herself and made it happen ( can you feel me SMILING!)
