PAUSE Fullyhacks 2025 Team: Talhah Raheem, Omar Rafiq, and Dylan Geraci
Project Pause: Description Purpose: Pause is a mobile app designed to help users reduce excessive phone use, encouraging them to prioritize meaningful tasks and quality time with others. It aims to foster mindfulness and productivity by breaking the cycle of mindless screen time. Functionality: Pause features a clean, intuitive interface with tools to combat doom scrolling: Screen Time Alerts: Notifies users after extended phone use, suggesting breaks or alternative activities. Task Prioritization: Allows users to set goals for productive tasks (e.g., studying, hobbies) with reminders to stay focused.
Social Prompts: Encourages offline interactions by suggesting activities like calling a friend or joining family time.
Progress Tracking: Visualizes reduced screen time and completed tasks to motivate users. Problem Addressed: Pause tackles "doom scrolling," a common issue among students who lose hours to endless social media or app browsing. This habit often derails productivity, academic performance, and real-world relationships. By offering gentle nudges and actionable alternatives, Pause helps users reclaim their time for what truly matters.
We learned how to use a new language that we were not familiar with, and also got exposed to mobile development.
All Members (Collaborative Contributors): The three of us—Talhah Raheem, Omar Rafiq, and Dylan Geraci—worked closely as a cohesive unit, sharing responsibilities across ideation, design, and development. We collectively brainstormed the app’s concept to combat doom scrolling, designed the user interface for intuitive functionality, and coded core features like screen time alerts and task prioritization using Swift in Xcode. Each of us contributed to debugging, testing, and refining Pause to ensure it effectively helps students reduce phone use and focus on meaningful tasks.
What's next for Pause: Create it into a fully functional app and publish it to the App store. Improve the UI and get 1000 users.
