Inspiration

We wanted to engage people to use Marimekko patterns in new and exciting way. AR and VR offer multiple ways to explore things interactively. We also wanted to be inclusive, fun and share information about Marimekko in absorbable bits along the way.

What it does

After brainstorming on Friday we had established that a set of minigames exploring different patterns would be fun and engaging way for people to get to know Marimekko brand. We built an easy way to open up the Marimekko world of patterns from a gift bag with AR. After opening the boxes the users can play the patterns and learn about them in an exiting way. After completing the minigame challenges the user will get prizes which will dig even deeper to the Marimekko brand.

How we built it

The Designathon version of our game was built with Google Tango Device, but the whole application can also work with ARKit or ARCore to include more devices.

Challenges we ran into

On Friday we had a brainstorming session with many ideas. From those ideas we selected to build minigames as an AR app. Building multiple games and at the same time creating an application which someone would download and use turned up to be quite heavy task.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We made the app which is functional with two minigames to play. And they are actually FUN to play! They are also connected to the Marimekko world through the patterns.

What's next for pattern up!

Achievements! Design with the patterns with AR? Spray paint the world in AR with the patterns you've unlocked? Explore with VR even deeper?
